Piva are a costume band from the Midlands, specializing in music from the Renaissance, and boasting no less than four instrument makers in their line-up – Eric and Jane Moulder, Jim Parr and Tony Millyard – all of whom are regulars at the Blowout. ‘Heigh Ho Holiday’ is their first CD. Like many keen pipers I always keep an eye out for carvings or pictures of bagpipes on my travels, but recently thought I should try to find examples closer to home, which for me is Cheshire. Over the last year or so I have visited nearly all of the surviving medie- val churches in the county to explore them for images of bagpipers. Many of these me- dieval churches are now bare of carvings or paintings, following reformation, civil war and the heavy hand of Victorian restorers, but still I found eight examples in the area.Read more »
2nd- 4th September 2016, Bolton Castle, Wensleydale - Box Office Now Open! Medieval Music in the Dales is the new medieval music festival being organized by medieval minstrels, Trouvere. Bagpipes are a really important part of the event and we are immensely grateful for the support of The Bagpipe Society, who are funding Danilo Turchetti (Musica Inspirata) to exhibit his magnificent medieval bagpipes at the festival. It was our first bit of funding and cheered us on enormously as we planned the event!Read more »
