Thoughts on how to hold a chanter

Being a piper but trained originally as a concert flutist, I tend to play my pipes more with the fingertips than with what is called ‘pipers grip’. Every now and then, I get asked why I never swapped my fingering. In fact, I see advantages in both ways of playing the pipes, but from my very personal point of view I see more disadvantages in the piper’s grip.
