When I was asked to write an article for the Chanter, it was a nice surprise and just in time. Not being an academic paper sensu stricto, I will spice my narrative with some personal details. After finishing my PhD thesis almost years ago, I had to quit my linguistics life for different reasons. One of the last things I did as a young researcher in those times was a short but fruitful expedition to Northern Greece, where I was introduced to the magical world of bagpiping and traditional music and actually ended up starting piping myself, to the big disappointment of my then neighbours.
