The Chabrette - for an Open Fingering

In this article I will try to show, that for this (magnificent) French bagpipe, the chabrette¹, rediscovered and now widely played in the Limousin region;

  • there can be,
  • there shouldbe,
  • it would be good to have,
  • it would be the devil if there were not (delete as appropriate) a standard fingering and a tablature that shows that fingering.

Can you imagine playing an instrument without having the instruction manual available? Whether that's in written form or face to face with your teacher? And then, can you imagine how you could teach it, without being able to refer your students to the instrument’s "user manual"?
