Bagpipe Tutor - David Faulkner

David Faulkner

I was prompted to write this when one of my recent students talked to me about how hard it was to find a teacher. At the moment I am teaching a few pipers regularly on zoom. All that is needed is a device that has a camera, mic, sound and a screen. For instance, a computer, laptop, large phone etc. The mic can be internal or plugged in. I send a zoom link and any resources needed for the session which can then be printed off or viewed on screen.

The paid zoom account I have means we can do a session for an hour, or as long as we want, without being interrupted.

So, I am happy to teach on line. I am also happy to meet face to face if people happen to be in my area. In addition, if an intensive long weekend of piping is needed, I can also offer a Piping Stay (I live in Moretonhampstead on the edge of Dartmoor) – food and a bed can be arranged at my house and we can play until our heart’s content!

I teach absolute beginners to advanced piping; from how to get going & playing a few simple tunes, posture & breathing, repertoire development, advanced playing techniques, etc. Students can set their own aims and goals.

Lessons can be done by ear, with or without written music, or by a combination of both. I provide learning resources, sheet music and sound files, and sessions can be recorded. I have pipes in G, D, C & A. I play mouth and bellows blown Border pipes and am familiar with the different fingering styles from a range of instruments.

I can be flexible with diary & timings, and lessons can be as a one off or a part of an ongoing series. Costs: 1 hour £30 or 30 mins £20. A Piping Stay by negotiation.

I have over 30 years playing experience and have been teaching and leading workshops for, it seems, many years now! I play for concerts, and for English and European folk dance. I am very familiar with English and Border piping styles as well as other British European traditions. I play traditional and contemporary music spanning the centuries.
