Would you believe that this edition of Chanter sees the fiftieth ‘In the Bag’ column? Would you also believe that Jane has persuaded me to step out from the shadows to place myself in the spotlight this month? This last is more understandable given our editor’s now legendary powers of persuasion; but the former? Fifty? Really?
I began the column back in Summer 2013 with a simple goal in mind. Our magazine is rightly filled with specialist articles about the finer points of luthiery (if that’s a word); of the limits of history and what can or cannot be said about our piping forebears and their repertoire; of organology and classification.
