When I got married 25 years ago little did I know what I was letting myself in for. A career in R&D, I was told, would keep me in the style that I had become accustomed to, I could then retire at 50 and potter about – quite literally making pots. The reality has, however, been a little different.
After seven years of marriage, we upped sticks and moved to the frozen North – the right side of the hills for me but the wrong side for a Sheffield man.
