Newsletters

The Society publishes four Newsletters called Chanter a year. These contain details of forthcoming events and sessions and a selection of reviews of recordings, concerts, festivals and published music. Chanter also contains articles on bagpipes, their history and their music as well as technical articles on subjects such as construction, national piping styles and history of certain types of pipes.

Articles of a bagpipe nature are invited and can be sent via. email (in text .txt or .rtf format) to newsletter@bagpipesociety.org.uk from where they will be redirected to the editor.

Members can use Chanter to advertise any instruments they may wish to sell and also as a forum to publish tunes they have either written themselves or come across that they wish to share with other members.

Whilst it is not possible to publish entire copies of the Newsletter here, from time to time an article may be put forward.

About Us
The Bagpipe Society was formed in the mid-1980's with the object of providing a means of communication between players, makers and researchers, or indeed anyone simply interested in bagpipes. Further aims are:-

Whilst the Society is UK based it has many overseas members, particularly in Europe but also in the USA and Australia. The Society publishes a Newsletter four times a year with news on the world of piping; reviews of recordings, concerts and publications; discussions on aspects of piping and pipe music and lists of events involving piping. Details of a number of bagpipe makers can be found at the Links page on this site.
