Membership

The membership of the Society is made up of people who are interested in the music of the bagpipes, the playing of the instruments and also a growing number of instrument makers who produce a wide range of instruments.

Membership of the Society is open to anyone with an interest in the bagpipes and offers:-

Four Newsletters a year which include information on technical issues, recording reviews, notated music suitable for the bagpipes, band profiles, details of festivals and events where bagpipes will be present, an area for members to advertise instruments for sale and a Society shop selling society goods.
The opportunity to attend the Society's "Blowout" weekend. This is a now annual event held at the end of May and includes workshops, concerts, dances and competitions amongst other "bagpipey" happenings.
Periodical publications of the details of bagpipe makers and teachers, a discography and a bibliography.

Membership is currently £17.00 a year (£9.00 for unwaged members) with an additional £2.00 joining fee in the first year. Family membership is available at the normal rate (£18.00) for one household but the £2.00 joining fee is needed for each nominated member to cover the cost of members badge and membership card. It is possible to pay via Standing Order direct from your bank (UK only), please contact Michael Ross for more details. For overseas members there is also an additional mailing charge of £10.00 for airmail (outside Europe only) and £3.00 for surface mail. A PayPal facility has now been added allowing applications and renewals to be made via the Internet.

Because of the annoying, and and sometimes expensive, process of converting US or Canadian dollars to UK pounds, the Bagpipe Society has decided to open a North American "office".

Fees in US $ are as follows: Waged and Family $27.50; Unwaged (students, etc.) $14; Initial membership fee (paid first time only) $3
Mailing costs for publications (one or the other is required for North American members): Airmail $15, Surface mail $5.

All monies, cheques etc. for outside the USA/Canada should be in Sterling. For the USA/Canada please send US$. We are unable to process credit/debit cards.
