The Society publishes its journal Chanter quarterly. Articles are written by members and cover the history of bagpipes and their music, tips for makers, playing techniques, as well as album, instrument and gig reviews. Chanter is also available to current members as a downloadable pdf file. Non UK -based members have the option of receiving both paper and digital, or digital only at a lower price. Read more on the membership page.
Members use Chanter to advertise instruments for sale, gigs and sessions, and also to publish new and recently discovered tunes.
We have been in existence for 29 years, so it’s about time we opened the vaults. We have digitised all our publications and they are now online. There is open access to all publications, except for the most recent two years, which are restricted to members only. In addition, members can download everything as pdf files.
We are settling into our new website, including making available articles from our thirty year history. If you spot something inaccurate, garbled or missing, or if you want to volunteer to help us improve our site, please mail info@bagpipesociety.
